    Good to Great

Becoming the best Christian businessman in the world!

There are two verses from the Bible that have compelled me to be the best at whatever it is I pursue in life.  The first is found in Colossians 3:23-24.

23Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

The second is very similar to it and is found in 1 Corinthians 10:31.

31 So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

My name is Jason Lamb and I serve God at Dare 2 Share Ministries near Denver, CO as the Director of Sales & Youth Ministry Services.  Through this position, studying scripture, reading several business and leadership books, and the mentoring of many wise people – they have all culminated to one critical question in life: “What will it take to be the best in the world at whatever you do?”  As you may have already pieced together, asking myself this question fueled by the verse above has given birth to this blog.  This will be the record of my journey as combine two of my great passions in life: a heart for Jesus and a mind for business.

At first I phrased my goal as “Becoming the best Christian businessman in the world,” but that doesn’t quite accurately capture the essence of what I am striving for.  The fact is I want to excel at combining ministry and business.  To be successful at both will require striving for a maximum Kingdom impact while executing sound business principles that will, simply put, generate revenue.

For the last few years I have been wrestling through where I am headed in life and how I’m going to get there.  I went to college at Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina pursuing my calling into Youth Ministry.  I served full-time in two churches for a total of 7 years doing just that.  There are some days when I have the itch to be a Youth Pastor again but after wrestling through that I am confident and excited that Dare 2 Share is where God wants me to be and that He has positioned me here to accomplish my goals!

For those of you who are reading along, thanks for joining me on this journey!  I look forward to what God teaches me through His Word, mentors He has put in my life, the random people I will meet along the way, and the many books I plan on reading in 2010.  This actually brings me to the driving force behind my blog for this year.  I have decided that to keep myself moving in the right direction and to give myself something to measure progress against I am pursuing a practical goal for 2010: read a book a week.  For more on that, click on the “a book a week” tab at the top of this page.

A heart for Jesus & a mind for business,

  2. This will be a great outlet for you to express what you are learning on a regular basis, Jason. It is always good to refine your writing skills as well as your reading. Be sure to focus on qualitative goals as well as quantitative (deep and wide, friend). Don’t let your competitive nature cheat you out of some great ideas and concepts. I really look forward to walking alongside you through the journey this year!
